We had an unexpectedly dramatic storm overnight, with 49mph winds in the pasture and something like 3 inches of rain. The farm lost power, along with 240,000 of my neighbors, but I thought we had gotten off largely unscathed until I got to the back pasture this morning.
The centuries-old red oak that had given name to the farm lost its remaining crown during the night; thankfully, the lambs were no longer grazing under it.
