There’s been a crew of arborists cutting down trees along the power line right-of-way all week. I think my natural inclination would be indignant opposition to large-scale clear-cutting, but given my insatiable needs for firewood and pasture, I was delighted to have them here. It didn’t hurt that they were a very friendly and good-natured bunch.
The fellow pushing down the tree turned out to be a really knowledgeable forager, giving me advice about the perfect moment to harvest fiddlehead ferns and sharing mushroom hunting tips.
