One of my recurring problems is forgetting that I’m a farmer.   The past two days I’m been dismantling a garden area that the previous owners had created (I need the space for a sheep-handling yard — more on that soon.), and today I was pulling out the (many) rocks she had set in concentric ovals.moving rocks-2218

I was dutifully carrying the rocks away and piling them against a stone wall, in the manner of the suburban homeowner I used to be.moving rocks-2222

I was thinking that the work was going awfully slowly when I remembered that I have a tractor, one that I could pull up right next to the rock ellipses so I wouldn’t have to carry rocks to a pile.

I filled the loader bucket three times, with what felt like a couple thousand pounds of rocks in each load.  Dumping them in an out-of-the-way spot gave me a little bump of joy as I thought about all the rocks I wasn’t carrying.

Maybe a reminder on my phone for next time…?
