Yesterday was the Sullivan town cleanup, consisting mostly of collecting discarded beer cans from the sides of the town roads.  Part of the way through our assigned section, my partner-in-trash, Wendy Pelletier, suggested that maybe the border collies would like to help.  I felt silly for not thinking of it — Luc took to it immediately.

I was puzzled by my clenched fist in the first photo (always alarming to see myself in pictures!) until I remembered that I was holding treats in that hand to reward Luc for his help.  Once Luc got the idea, he was extremely enthusiastic about his new job.  We were able to send him to fetch cans under tree roots, in wet drainage ditches, and all the places that dogs love and people try to avoid.  Thanks to Wendy for the photos!
